WordPress does a fine job of making thumbnails of images but sometimes all of your thumbnails end up being just peoples chests or if the image is of a person being off center (hey, nothing with with photos using the rule of thirds) you'll find yourself with weird looking thumbnails. This plugin aptly named "My Eyes Are Up Here" fixes this boob/chest focused thumbnail problem by detecting where the faces are in the photo and giving you a chance to define focus points too. I've been using this plugin for bit after Aaron Hockley brought it to my attention during a photowalk. It solved a common problem and it's method of detection work great!

Chris Coyier never disappoints. If you're anything like me you don't mind learning a new tool to be able to automate additional tools installation and configuration. Bower is a package manager for all sorts of stuff such as jQuery or some framework. Check out this article it's usually a pretty good understanding of how Bower actually works.

One of the most popular videos on WordPress.TV this week - Steve Zehngut: Build a WordPress Theme with Foundation and Underscores
    11/21/2014
If you haven't seen Steve Zehngut speak at a WordCamp you really should. He mentions this each week on WPwatercooler that he runs the OC WordPress Meetup and has been speaking there as the "default speaker" each month and always comes up with something to talk about. This video is from 2014 WordCamp Orange County where he discusses the ever popular Underscores _s and Foundation. It's interesting that this video is popular but only has 18 votes but OVER 70 shares on Facebook. If you like the video give him 5 stars. For that matter if you want any WordPress.TV video and like the content give them 5 stars too!

WP Engine is innovating again | Chris Lema
    11/21/2014
Chris Lema as always did a great write up on a story we posted about a few days ago regarding Mercury from WP Engine. Chris being in the position that he is in over at Crowd Favorite sees the need for custom configurations from the likes of siteground, pagely and now WP Engine for his high end corporate clients. There is still a lot of road ahead, but the journey so far in scaleable WordPress hosting solutions is only getting better at each mile marker we pass.

Android botnet could pose threat to corporate networks & WordPress sites | Computerworld
    11/20/2014
Computerworld writes that the 'NotCompatible' Android Trojan is one of the oldest botnets running on Android hardware. Distributed as a drive-by download from compromised websites. Computerworld continues that the variant NoteCompatible.C botnet is using encrypted traffic to send it's command out and has been used to spam, bulk purchase from various live event ticketing sites and brute-force it's way into WordPress sites. As with anything security related having a strong foundation in place such as Sucuri's Website Firewall is a good choice in attempting to keep the bad guys out.

Advantages and Disadvantages of WordPress Frameworks - Tuts+ Code Article
    11/20/2014
My friend Sé Reed has a love/hate relationship with WordPress Frameworks. We've discussed this on WPwatercooler a few times now and each time "it depends" comes up as the answer to questions like this. Leveraging a framework when building out a site makes a stronger foundation (bonus points if your use Foundation framework) since the framework is being used by more than just you. The community at large is using the framework and more items and features are being added to it. This is where my friend Sé sees it as a disadvantage because you are now having to learn a framework instead of using vanilla WordPress thus having to learn and maintain knowledge on two platforms that are ever changing.

WordPress was far too clunky." with the amount of help that is available in the WordPress community in the form of Meetups, WordCamps, YouTube videos and even Podcasts it amazes me when people say WordPress is hard or "clunky".
